Working Equitation
Working Equitation asks the horse and rider to be versatile, balanced, and truly connected. That's everything a saddle fitter cares about. Renee Waters shares why Connection Saddle Fit joined Working Equitation Florida as a Founding Charter Member, and what WEFL's education programs mean for the future of the sport in Florida.

Why Connection Saddle Fit Joined Working Equitation Florida as a Founding Charter Member
I just signed on as a Founding Charter Member of Working Equitation Florida, and I couldn't be more excited about it.
If you haven't encountered Working Equitation yet, you will soon. The sport is growing fast here in Florida, and for good reason. Rooted in the traditions of European working horsemanship, it combines dressage, obstacle work, and speed into a discipline that tests the real, functional partnership between horse and rider. There's nowhere to hide. The horse has to be supple, responsive, and confident. The rider has to be balanced, clear, and quiet.
In other words, it asks the horse and rider to be versatile, balanced, and truly connected.
As a saddle fitter, that's everything I care about.
Where Saddle Fit Meets the Sport
Every discipline I work in comes back to the same truth: a horse can only give you what its body allows. Working Equitation makes that truth impossible to ignore. One moment you're riding a collected canter, the next you're bending through a slalom or opening a gate. The horse is constantly shifting its balance, engaging its back, and adjusting its frame.
A saddle that restricts any of that will show up in the work. You'll feel it in the transitions. You'll see it in the obstacles. The horse will tell you, whether or not the rider is listening.
That's why this sport resonates with me so deeply. It rewards exactly what proper saddle fit makes possible: freedom of movement, comfort, and a horse that trusts what's being asked of it.
Building the Foundation
What impresses me most about Working Equitation Florida is that they're not just organizing shows. They're building real education for this sport, including a Train the Trainers program that will shape instruction here for years to come.
That matters. A discipline is only as strong as the people teaching it, and getting the education right from the beginning means riders and horses across Florida will benefit for decades.
I wanted Connection Saddle Fit to be part of that foundation from day one. Supporting good horsemanship at the ground level is the same mission that drives every fitting I do.
Come Ride With Us
Whether you're a dressage rider curious about something new, a western rider looking for a fresh challenge, or someone who simply loves the idea of a sport built on partnership, Working Equitation has a place for you. And you don't need to be a competitor to enjoy it. Some of the best moments in this sport happen in the practice pen, figuring out an obstacle with a horse who's trying to understand right along with you.
Are you riding or curious about Working Equitation? I'd love to hear what draws you to it. And if you're wondering whether your saddle is ready for the demands of the sport, that's a conversation I'm always happy to have.
